Joomla Extension Review - Article as Module
Sunday, 16 May 2010 15:19

Modules provide great flexibility in displaying content on your Joomla website, and the "Article as Module" extension is a simple way to take that flexibility a step further.  Simple to install and use, the module (mod_articleasmodule) lets you display any article you have created on your site as a module.

I have found this a great way to display related content or teaser text on pages of the website, showing only the intro text along with a Read More link.  You can see it in action at http://hadenoughalready.com.  The "Newsflash" item in the footer is a mod_articleasmodule module.  This Newsflash item needed to be a static article rather than the traditional Newsflash module, as the client needed strict control over what item would be displayed, rather than a random selection.

I recently downloaded and installed version 1.0 of the module for a recent project.  The use of the module was self-explanatory and I was quickly able to create a new module, enter the Article ID I wanted to display, and set the module options.  Optional settings include the ability to show or hide the Read More link, show or hide the article heading (title), as well as optional CSS to include before or after the article and heading.

One tip - the article you are trying to display needs to be assigned to a category (i.e. not Uncategorized).
